Brows rarely grow perfectly by nature. That is why many men and women battle the hairs above their eyes every day: some shave their eyebrows into shape with mini tools, while others pluck annoying hairs individually with tweezers. Neither method promises long-lasting results and both can be very time-consuming. Eyebrow waxing, on the other hand, is a quick and precise beauty tool that makes your face glow.
Find out in our article which eyebrow waxing methods are available, how best to prepare for waxing and why, when in doubt, you should only let experts near your brows.
Eyebrow Waxing: These Two Methods Are Available
When you choose eyebrow waxing, you can choose between two methods: warm wax or cold wax strips.
Warm wax is used primarily in professional beauty studios—including our Sanft & Schön salon. The wax comes in a solid state, so it must be heated and liquefied before use. A bain-marie or microwave is suitable for this. If you wax your eyebrows or other areas of the body regularly, it is also worth buying a wax heater: with some models, you can even set the target temperature—saving yourself painful waxing experiences with warm wax that is still too hot. Once the wax has reached the right temperature, it is applied with a spatula and covered with a fleece strip. After only a few seconds, you can pull the skin taut and remove the strip in one swift motion. In this way, you work your way around your eyebrow section by section.
Cold wax is ideal for use at home. You can often buy a kit put together specifically for eyebrow waxing, containing ideally shaped cold wax strips for above, below and between the brows. Unlike warm wax, you only need to warm the cold wax strips briefly between your hands. Then place the strip in the correct position, press it down briefly, pull the skin taut and remove it with a swift motion. Repeat the individual steps until you have removed all excess hairs.
Whether cold or warm wax: after waxing, remove wax residue with a damp cleansing wipe or a little make-up remover on a cotton pad. Only wipe gently over the brow area, as your skin is irritated.
Our Sanft & Schön tip: Always pull the wax strips off against the direction of hair growth when waxing your eyebrows! This may be a little more painful, but it guarantees that you remove as many hairs as possible, including the root, at the same time.
Eyebrow Waxing: How to Find the Right Shape for Your Face
Finally, perfectly shaped brows? Eyebrow waxing promises long-lasting results and clear contours. But how do you find the shape that ideally suits your face?
As a basic rule: if your face is rather angular, your brows can be more rounded, which creates a softer look. Conversely, an angular shape gives a soft, round face distinctive and interesting features.
You can use the so-called three-point technique to find out exactly how your brow should run. This method lets you determine the three most important points of your eyebrow: the starting point, the highest point of the arch and the end of your brow. It’s that easy:
Our Sanft & Schön tip: Mark the three points with an eyebrow pencil! Ideally, connect the points with lines to contour your new eyebrow shape. This can provide guidance and confidence for the waxing that follows.
Eyebrow Waxing: Preparation and Care Are Essential
Like every other area of the body, you should prepare your eyebrows for waxing—among other things, this prevents your skin from becoming irritated afterwards. Also note that your hairs must be at least one millimetre long to be removed with wax. You should also consider the following four points before and after eyebrow waxing:
1. Clean Your Skin Before Eyebrow Waxing
Before you start giving your eyebrows the perfect shape, you should remove make-up residue, surface bacteria and oils from your skin. A mild make-up remover works best. Only then will warm or cold wax adhere properly and reliably remove every hair.
- Caution: Take another look at your make-up remover before cleansing—if it contains oil, use another product.
2. Exfoliation for Long-Lasting Eyebrow Waxing
Want to do something good for your facial skin? Weekly exfoliation not only removes dead skin cells and leaves your skin beautifully glowy, but also prevents hairs from growing in after waxing. So do not leave out your eyebrows when exfoliating!
3. After Eyebrow Waxing: The Right Care
Whether warm or cold wax: eyebrow waxing puts stress on your skin. After waxing, make sure the area around your brows receives a generous dose of care. Aloe vera gel is doubly effective, for example: it provides plenty of moisture while cooling and soothing your skin. To keep your brows supple, you can regularly care for them with a serum or cold-pressed castor oil.
Our Sanft & Schön tip: It is best to wax your eyebrows in the evening! This gives your skin time to regenerate overnight.
4. Off Limits After Eyebrow Waxing: UV Radiation
Since the skin around your eyebrows is more sensitive for the first few days—even with care after waxing—you should avoid direct sun and apply sufficient UV protection as you do every day. This keeps you on the safe side and avoids painful burns.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Eyebrow Waxing
Eyebrow waxing offers numerous benefits and excels above all through efficiency and long-lasting results. Nevertheless, this beauty tool is not suitable for everyone and also has disadvantages you should know about.
Vorteile
- The result lasts up to four weeks because hairs are removed with the root
- Especially dense, bushy and fast-growing eyebrows can be tamed effectively
- Waxing is effective: unlike plucking, all hairs in an area are removed at once
- Quick application, especially with cold wax strips: they are already shaped and fit perfectly below, between and above the eyebrows
- Considered less painful because hairs are not pulled individually
- Wax can be used all over the body
Zu beachten
- Caution with sensitive skin: waxing may put too much stress on the skin
- Waxing takes practice; initially, the result may not be as precise as desired
- Hairs must first grow to 1 mm so that wax can grip them
Why You Should Leave Eyebrow Waxing to an Expert When in Doubt
One hair here, one hair there—if you have previously kept your eyebrows in shape with tweezers, switching to do-it-yourself waxing can be disastrous. While eyebrow plucking lets you comfortably remove one hair after another and quickly correct small mistakes, waxing removes many hairs at once—possibly parts of the brow you did not actually want to remove.
Not sure whether waxing works for your eyebrows? Then trust an expert and have your brows professionally shaped. At our Sanft & Schön beauty studio in Berlin Mitte, our depiladoras will introduce you to eyebrow waxing in a completely relaxed way. Nothing can go wrong here: we know which wax temperature feels pleasant on your skin, which brow shape suits your face and how to achieve great results quickly and with relatively little pain.
Is eyebrow waxing exactly to your taste and do you love long-lasting smooth skin? Then why not try Brazilian waxing and more! We are also happy to advise you on preventing an ingrown hair in the intimate area or on different methods for permanent hair removal, such as laser hair removal, including for men.
Conclusion: Eyebrow Waxing as a Beauty Tool
Perfectly shaped eyebrows, clean contours—and for weeks? Eyebrow waxing is an effective, long-lasting beauty tool that gets your eyebrows into shape. For home use, you can choose between warm wax and cold wax strips. Before removing hairs, however, you should use the three-point technique to determine the beginning, highest point and end of your brow. This gives you guidance during waxing and helps ensure that you do not remove too many hairs.
Are you unsure and want to avoid unpleasant surprises with do-it-yourself waxing? Then have your eyebrows shaped by real professionals! Depiladoras work with wax every day and know exactly how to achieve perfect results. After waxing, make sure to give the irritated skin around your brows plenty of moisture and protect it from UV radiation. Regular exfoliation once a week prevents regrowing hairs from becoming ingrown and lets you benefit from your waxing for a long time.
At Sanft & Schön in Berlin, we also offer all kinds of facial treatments, such as microneedling, Aquafacial and microdermabrasion, as well as acne treatments.
