Spring doesn’t just bring changing temperatures – your skin’s needs change too, which is why it’s important to adapt your skincare routine to the new weather. After the long winter months, your skin is probably dry, chapped and flaky, having been repeatedly exposed to dry heated air as well as severe cold. Unprotected areas such as your hands or face are especially vulnerable. Once temperatures drop below seven degrees Celsius, and also due to low daytime humidity, your skin’s own oil production decreases – and the skin becomes dry and sensitive. Important for containing the Covid-19 pandemic, but additionally taxing for your facial skin, are masks: these contribute to your skin lacking moisture over time. So what does the perfect skincare routine for spring-fresh skin look like?

We’ll reveal which skin products you should never go without in spring, how important the right diet is for your complexion, and how to conjure a facial glow in no time, in our five tips for beautiful skin in spring.

1. Glowing Skin: Professional Deep Cleansing for Optimal Preparation

A spring clean for your skin? You read that right: whatever gives our homes a true glow-up doesn’t hurt our facial skin either. A professional deep cleanse at Sanft & Schön in Berlin prepares your skin optimally for your new spring skincare routine.
Dead, old and non-functional skin cells need to be removed so that the nutrients in your skincare routine can actually reach the skin. A microdermabrasion treatment in Berlin Mitte helps with this, gently sloughing off dead cells and thereby opening the pores. Our microneedling in Berlin Mitte, on the other hand, improves water-retention capacity and ensures hydrated, plump, glowing skin as well as the ultimate facial glow. Also ideal for a preparatory deep cleanse in spring is an Aquafacial treatment in Berlin Mitte, which moisturises and intensively cleanses at the same time: dead skin flakes are specifically removed so that the skin underneath can regenerate completely. Nutrients are channelled directly into the skin, hydrating dry, slack winter skin.

2. Facial Glow: Cleansing Scrubs and Nourishing Masks

Do you need an SOS tip for glowing skin that’s also super easy to do at home? The magic words are: scrubs and masks. Scrubs are true multitaskers for your face: they boost circulation and prepare the skin to absorb the skincare products that follow. Since your skin is constantly exposed to environmental influences and so absorbs and stores pollutants from the air, you should cleanse it regularly. One to two scrubs a week ensure that dead skin flakes and impurities are loosened, allowing the top layer of skin to renew itself without any trouble.

Make sure you use scrubs with environmentally friendly, natural and easily tolerated ingredients: many commercial scrubs from the drugstore rely on plastic particles for their promised cleansing effect – however, these harm the environment, as they enter the water cycle as microplastics and cannot be fully removed. For a natural exfoliating effect without harming the environment, we recommend scrubs made from ground apricot kernels, coffee grounds, or sugar. Mix five tablespoons of sugar with three tablespoons of olive oil to form a thick paste. Fresh rosemary adds a special fresh kick. Apply with your fingers and massage in gently with circular motions. Then wash your face with lukewarm water. What remains is velvety-soft, well-cared-for, glowing skin.

If you have blemished skin or acne, you should opt for fruit-acid peels. We’re also happy to help with our acne treatment in Berlin. Chemical peels usually work with glycolic acid derived from unripe grapes or sugar cane. The acid penetrates the upper horny layer of the skin and loosens dead cells. The pores also open up and cell renewal is activated. About two days after the treatment, the top layer of skin then peels away – revealing glowing skin.

Ideally, you should follow your peel with a mask or ampoule treatment containing highly concentrated active ingredients that provide moisture and help the skin regenerate. This supplies your skin with all the important nutrients and replenishes its moisture reserves. As a result, your skin is optimally equipped for sun exposure and other external environmental influences, and you get a radiant facial glow.

3. Glowing Skin: Moisturising Care with Light Textures

Goodbye winter skin, hello spring freshness! In spring, it’s time to adjust your skincare routine and banish rich, oily products to the back of your bathroom cabinet. As temperatures rise, it’s not just nature that springs back to life – your sebaceous glands also wake from hibernation and start functioning normally again.

In spring, your skincare should be all about “moisture,” compensating for the poor hydration of your winter skin. Especially light creams and lotions with a high water content and various moisture boosters such as urea, aloe vera, glycerin, or hyaluronic acid can conjure a facial glow. For even more moisture, serums are available to suit every skin type, which you can determine for yourself. Simply apply the serum underneath your day or night cream – done. Do you suffer from very dry skin all year round? Then you can continue to use rich skincare products. Just make sure the oil content is lower than during the cold months.

If you use products that are too rich, your skin will no longer be able to absorb them due to increased sebum and lipid production. The unsightly consequences are clogged, enlarged pores and, in the worst case, stubborn pimples. Light fluids, gels and cleansing foams are therefore the optimal choice for glowing skin in spring, as they contain less oil and more moisture. They also absorb quickly into the skin and support the transition to your spring skincare routine. This also helps shrink enlarged pores in no time.

Our tip: wean your skin off oily skincare products slowly in spring. To do this, apply light creams only during the day at first and stick with rich products at night. After two to three weeks, your skin will have adjusted to the new routine, and you can then switch to lighter textures at night too. By the way, sensitive skin reacts much faster to aggressive ingredients in spring. It’s best to avoid additives such as fragrances, silicones, or preservatives to prevent this.

4. Beware of Spring Sun: Sun Protection for Glowing Skin

Do you want glowing skin in spring? Then use a day cream with high UV protection every day. After the dark winter months, your skin is unused to the sun and reacts quickly and sensitively to unfamiliar UV exposure. Even low levels of UV radiation can put significant strain on the skin.

To avoid jeopardising your facial glow, you should gradually get your skin used to the spring sun and use sun protection products properly. This includes, for example, using the right amount of sunscreen or reapplying it regularly. Ideal for glowing skin are care creams containing UV protection with an SPF of 30 to 50. This protects your skin from sunburn, premature skin ageing, and health-threatening skin conditions – you can read more about this in our article on first aid for sunburn.

Sanft & Schön tip: particularly recommended for daily UV protection in spring are light sun-protection serums, which you can apply under or over your day cream (yes, reapplying matters here too!). Thanks to their fine texture, these serums don’t feel greasy and are therefore also ideal as a makeup base.

5. Facial Glow Thanks to Skincare from Within: Diet and Hydration

Your skin is especially sensitive in spring: it reacts not only to external influences such as temperature fluctuations or sun exposure, but can also be thrown off balance by an unhealthy lifestyle and poor diet. If your food lacks essential nutrients, this leads to a dull, pale complexion, facial redness, and blemishes. This additionally makes your skin more sensitive and causes it to react more strongly to new skincare products or sun exposure.

So for glowing skin, be sure to pay attention to your diet: in general, you should eat enough fruit and vegetables so that your skin is supplied with all the important nutrients from within. Alkaline-forming foods such as grapes, carrots, tomatoes, or walnuts help prevent your body from becoming over-acidified. Your diet should also consist of as many natural, minimally processed products as possible. Avoid foods high in sugar as well as heavily spiced dishes: sugar and spices can irritate the skin. Reducing foods with saturated fatty acids also helps conjure a facial glow.

Important antioxidants (protection against free radicals) for glowing skin include vitamin C, which has a firming effect and softens wrinkles, as well as vitamin E, which protects skin cell membranes, helps prevent UV damage, and keeps skin beautifully supple. Beta-carotene also supports the formation and repair of skin tissue and therefore serves as a natural sunscreen from within. In addition, a balanced fluid intake supplies your cells with moisture – so always make sure you drink enough water.

By the way: factors such as alcohol, nicotine, stress and lack of sleep are deal-breakers for glowing skin. Anyone who wants a beautiful facial glow should therefore avoid them.
